My Story
I was raised in a small rural town in Havre, Montana, where growing up in a family run business taught me the value of hard work, discipline, and serving the people around you. Those early experiences shaped my appreciation for rural communities and the importance of collaboration, responsibility, and showing up when others need you. My wife Catherine and I moved to Montrose County six years ago, bringing both our work and our family to a place we have felt connected to since first working in the area in 2013. We chose to put down roots here because of the people, the character of the communities, and the shared belief that growth can happen without losing what makes this county special.
I have spent my career as an architect working alongside local leaders, business owners, and residents to strengthen communities while preserving their history and identity. I co own Springboard Studio and have worked in the private sector on complex construction and redevelopment projects throughout Colorado, including local efforts such as the Montrose Potato Growers Building, the Montrose County Historic Courthouse, the Rathbone Hotel, and the Delta Police Department historic Armory. In recent years, I have helped communities and building owners secure more than five million dollars in grants and tax credits to restore historic buildings, keeping investment and jobs local.
In the public sector, I worked with the Colorado Department of Local Affairs as a statewide architect, helping communities revitalize downtowns and move community driven projects forward. I later served as Director of the Colorado State Historical Fund, overseeing a statewide grant program supported by gaming tax revenue. In that role, I managed a twenty four million dollar budget, led a team of fifteen staff members, and worked closely with local governments, legislators, and community organizations across Colorado. These experiences reinforced the importance of fiscal responsibility, long term planning, and listening first to understand the needs of each community.
Today, I remain deeply committed to rural communities and to preserving the history, character, and resources that make places like Montrose County unique. As county commissioner, my focus will be on providing steady leadership, protecting public safety and community resources, and planning responsibly for the future while respecting the values and priorities of the people who live and work here.
